Dr. Patrick Smith, horn, and Stephanie Fairbairn Ycaza, tuba, join us at VCU in March

We are pleased to announce that we will be performing with admired colleagues and friends at our performance at Virginia Commonwealth University on March 15 at 7:30pm.

Dr. Patrick Smith, horn, will join us for the Virginia premiere of Nathan Pawelek’s new work for two horns and harp. Dr. Patrick Smith is an internationally acclaimed horn player, music educator, lecturer, and clinician. His performance with us follows his return from a performance tour in Sweden with the VCU Horn Studio. We had the privilege of meeting and hearing Patrick at the 2015 Northeast Horn Workshop last year, and we are looking forward to reuniting on stage.

Stephanie Fairbairn Ycaza, tuba, joins us for Ravel’s famous Pavane pour une infante défunte in a fresh transcription for horn, tuba, and harp by Apple Orange Pair. Colleen and Emily know Stephanie from our time at Yale School of Music together, and now Colleen and Stephanie are colleagues in the music department at VCU. We are particularly excited about this new transcription to highlight the similar timbres shared between the horn and tuba. Many people believe horn and tuba are the mellowest of the orchestral brass instruments because of their conical bore. Getting too technical? Don’t worry, Ravel’s beautiful melody will say it all.

Hope to see you at VCU!

New Haven register article features Apple Orange Pair

Check out this lovely article about us in the New Haven Register from October 13!

And stay tuned for news, photos, and videos from our Oct. 15 concert. We had a great time, and we know our audience did too. French music, photos, artwork, living artists, cider, and madeleines…and yet, the evening still wasn’t complete until the red feather boas showed up for one last tango.
