As January draws to a close, we are happy to report a successful first venture into the world of touring together! We presented two full-length performances in southwest Virginia earlier this month: first at the Southwestern Virginia Music Academy in Tazewell, and then at Bluefield College in Bluefield.
We were also impressed by the enthusiasm of our audiences in both locations. In Tazewell, the little recital hall we performed in was nearly packed, and we were greeted afterwards by a beautifully-laid-out reception with delicious cookies and homemade punch. At Bluefield College, we had easily over 100 people in attendance (a new record for a horn and harp concert!). The head of the college’s music department affirmed that this was an almost unprecedented turnout for an event of its type.
Emily was thrilled to be performing in a new (to her) area of the U.S., especially since southwest Virginia has a proper respect for band programs and brass instruments. It was great to meet so many ardent brass fans, from young students to community members to fellow professionals, who attended both concerts and talked personally with us afterwards. Emily also had the privilege of serving as a guest clinician for the brass methods class of music education majors at Bluefield College.
We can’t wait until 2015, when we are planning to have a second Virginia tour!
